Man Utd stars ‘underwhelmed’ by Rangnick – one player had to Google him

Some Manchester United players have been left ‘underwhelmed’ by Ralf Rangnick’s impact at the club since taking charge, according to reports.

The Red Devils suffered their first defeat under the interim manager on Monday night in a 1-0 defeat against Wolves which leaves them seventh in the league table, four points off Arsenal in fourth.

Rangnick has recorded three wins and a draw in his other four league games but the majority of those displays haven’t been spectacular.

That same feeling is being felt in the club’s dressing room with ESPN claiming some players have been ‘underwhelmed’ by his start to life at Manchester United.

The German coach needs to overcome a disrupted December to fully make an impact but it seems the jury is still out on the former RB Leipzig manager.

The new manager bounce hasn’t quite been what was expected after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit with United opting to appoint an interim boss instead of going out for Mauricio Pochettino or Antonio Conte.

Incredibly, one source told ESPN that a United player had to Google who Rangnick was when his appointment was finalised in November.

Rangnick will be looking to ensure United finish in the top four this campaign before he then moves into a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

But the 63-year-old coach is demanding plenty of improvements from his players in order to secure Champions League football next season.

‘The game showed we still have a lot of work to do and still have to take quite a few steps, both collectively and individually, especially against the ball, but in the first half in particular, in possession of the ball, there were too many unforced errors, too many giveaways,’ he said.

‘In those parts of the game, we just have to get better. I don’t want to speak about individual performances of players, it is an issue of the whole team.

‘We can only improve the team if we get better collectively. It doesn’t make sense now to talk about individual performances.’
