Man Utd to take Greenwood back from Getafe after crunch talks

According to reports, Manchester United is inclined to decline Getafe’s proposal to extend Mason Greenwood’s loan for another term, with intentions to pursue a sale of the homegrown talent.

Getafe, a La Liga team, has expressed interest in keeping Greenwood beyond this season, yet United seems poised to reclaim him in anticipation of a potential outright sale.

Greenwood, 22, joined Getafe on a year-long loan last summer, a move deemed beneficial for his career trajectory away from Manchester United’s home ground, Old Trafford.

The young forward, who has settled into life in Spain with his partner, Harriet, and their child born last July, has made 24 appearances in La Liga, scoring six goals, assisting five, and crafting 23 opportunities.

His stint at Getafe, donning the former number 11 jersey, has garnered attention from major clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, due to his commendable performances.

While Getafe is eager to prolong Greenwood’s loan until the subsequent season’s conclusion, having engaged in talks with Manchester United, The Sun has reported that United is not keen on another loan deal.

Instead, they are contemplating a definitive sale if they opt to trade Greenwood.

As England’s national team, the Three Lions, gear up for Euro 2024, where they’re touted as top contenders, fans can look forward to sporting the latest Nike kits.

The final decision on Greenwood’s future with United remains open, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe stating that a renewed assessment will be made when appropriate.

“It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on loan, obviously, but he’s not the only one,” Ratcliffe explained in February.

“We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.

“The process will be: understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values.

Mason Greenwood, a product of Manchester United’s academy, secured one England cap and netted 35 goals across 129 appearances for the club from 2018 to 2022.

Subsequent to his arrest and charges on multiple counts, including attempted rape, which he denied, the charges were dismissed by the Crown Prosecution in February of the previous year.

Greenwood has since returned to professional football and it appears he will be pursuing his career beyond Getafe in the coming season.
