Matic speaks out on leaving Man Utd for Mourinho reunion at Tottenham

Nemanja Matic has played down speculation he could leave Manchester United in the January window to join Tottenham Hotspur.

The Serbian has so far played for two sides under Jose Mourinho. He would add a third to that list if he moves to Tottenham in the new year.

During his time playing for Mourinho at Chelsea he won a Premier League title. Though He is still to lift a trophy at United and is no longer deemed to be a first team regular by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Matic could leave United in January if the right offer were to come along although Spurs are not understood to be interested in the 31-year-old despite his associations with the Portuguese at Hotspur Way.

The midfielder was asked in an interview with Omnisport about his future and the links with Tottenham ahead of the start of the January transfer window.

“As I know, you never know what’s going to happen in life,” he said. “At the moment I’m a Manchester United player and very focused on my job and in the future we will see what’s going to happen.”

According to the Manchester Evening News , the Red devils will allow Matic to leave in order to bring in a replacement. He is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

The midfielder was signed by Jose Mourinho for a second stint at Chelsea in 2014 from Benfica, the club he left the Blues to join in 2011.

He left Stamford Bridge as an attacking midfielder, in a deal that also saw David Luiz sign for the west London club.

After three seasons in Lisbon he returned to Chelsea as a defensive midfielder and was immediately installed in the starting lineup by Mourinho to lay the foundations for his third Premier League title victory in 2012.
