Several of his former Barcelona teammates, such as Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, later joined him in Major League Soccer at the Florida-based Inter Miami.
Andres Iniesta, on the other hand, chose to move to Japan to play for Vissel Kobe before signing with UAE’s Emirates Club. Recently, Iniesta announced his retirement after a brilliant career.
Messi has honored his former Barcelona teammate, calling him the player with the ‘most magic’ in a heartfelt tribute.
He posted an image of himself celebrating a goal with Iniesta at Stamford Bridge, accompanied with the caption: “One of the teammates with the most magic and one of those I enjoyed playing with the most. The ball is going to miss you, and so will all of us. I wish you the best always, you’re a phenomenon.”
Messi offered high praise for Iniesta, having had the privilege of playing alongside him throughout his entire Barcelona career.
The 40-year-old Spanish legend made 674 appearances for the Catalan club, scoring 57 goals and winning numerous trophies, including nine La Liga titles and four Champions League titles—all achieved alongside Messi.
On the international front, Iniesta was instrumental in Spain’s golden era, helping them secure the 2010 World Cup and two European Championship titles.
Although he never claimed the Ballon d’Or, Iniesta earned several prestigious accolades, such as five La Liga Best Midfielder awards and the Player of the Tournament award in 2012.
As he steps away from football, Iniesta is remembered as one of the greatest midfielders in the sport’s history.
