Mohamed Salah has promised Liverpool supporters that they will ‘fight like champions until the very end’ after Jurgen Klopp admitteded their title defence was over.

They slipped to their fifth Premier League defeat from seven games on Saturday after conceding three goals against Leicester.

Liverpool are now 13 points behind Manchester City, who had a 3-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday. Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand.

Salah posted on social media: ‘It’s been a tough period for many reasons. We are champions and we will fight like champions, until the very end.

‘We will not allow this season to be defined by the recent results we’ve had. That is my promise to all of you.’

Speaking after the defeat to Leicester, Klopp said: ‘I don’t think we can close the gap. We are not worrying about the title, we are not silly.

‘We have to win football games and big parts of the football were really good. We scored a great goal but conceded a strange one and I think it’s offside, and the [goal for] 2-1 is a misunderstanding.

‘That had too big an impact on the game. We had to show a different reaction, and the third we gave away too easily.’

Klopp added: ‘It was a clear game that we should win. We played good football, dominated possession, took the game out of Leicester.

‘Their first goal for me is offside. The difference is we think it’s an objective thing but it’s not. Three players offside, but it was decided to take another moment in the game. That is how it is.

‘The second goal is a misunderstanding obviously. It is a situation where we should shout and I didn’t hear anyone shout. It is not that cool.

‘The third goal I really don’t like. We are so open. I cannot accept. That was it. The performance for 75 minutes or so was outstanding then we lost 3-1. That shows what a tricky situation we are in.’
