Andre Onana names four Man Utd players who should take criticism after poor Premier League season

Andre Onana has identified four individuals who should bear the brunt of the blame for Manchester United’s lackluster Premier League season.

Despite concluding the season with a 2-0 victory against Brighton on Sunday, it’s undeniable that Erik ten Hag’s squad has had a deeply unsatisfactory season.

The win was insufficient to elevate United beyond the eighth spot in the standings, marking their poorest performance in Premier League history.

The team’s chances of securing a spot in European competitions next term hinge on their performance against Manchester City in the upcoming FA Cup final on Saturday.

After significant improvements last season under Ten Hag, this year has seen a downturn in their performance.

The Dutch manager, along with several players, has faced intense scrutiny from supporters, ex-players, and commentators this season. Among them is goalkeeper Andre Onana, whose performance has been inconsistent following his £47.2 million transfer from Inter Milan the previous summer.

In a recent episode of The Overlap, presented by Sky Bet, Onana disclosed that he tends to ignore the critiques from ex-players directed at him and his colleagues, although he expressed concern about the impact such criticism might have on the younger members of the squad.

Consequently, the 28-year-old goalkeeper would rather have the criticism directed towards himself and the more experienced members of the team.

“For me, I don’t pay attention to it. I have come into this team to take bullets, because we are under construction – at the moment, we are not the best,” Onana said.

“We have other teams who are doing better than us and we have to be honest and recognize that. If things and when things are going wrong, don’t go for the youngest player – I’m here to take it, Bruno [Fernandes], Casemiro and Harry [Maguire] are there and we are used to it.

“When it’s people who were sitting where I’m sitting, who won everything, sometimes it’s bizarre – we are in the same boat.

“We try to follow your thing and what you did. For me, I don’t mind, but other people may be affected. For me, to be honest, it’s just a part of the game.”
