Pogba reveals how he reacted to being punished by Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba insists he hasn’t been negatively affected after he was stripped of vice-captaincy by Jose Mourinho.

The France World Cup winner was punished by his head coach in September, although Mourinho refused to confirm why he took such action.

‘The only truth is that I made the decision for Paul not to be the second captain any more,’ the Manchester United manager said at the time. ‘It was the same person who decided Paul was the second captain. No fallout at all, just decisions I do not have to explain.’

Reports claimed the United boss was unhappy with Pogba for continuing to push for a transfer to Barcelona, but the 25-year-old says he is fully committed to the club.

‘It didn’t affect me,’ he said. ‘I’m still playing and really happy to play. The manager is the one who chooses who is going to be captain.

‘If he takes the armband away, it doesn’t change anything for me. I just want to play, perform and give my best for the team, the fans and the club and that’s it. It didn’t really touch me or affect me.

‘Choosing to come back to United, first of all, was my choice. Juve were playing Champions League and Manchester were playing Europa.

‘I don’t regret my choice. I know Manchester in the last few years haven’t been at the top, but I came back to help the team and get them back to the top. We have a lot of goals. For me, it’s not changed, I don’t regret it at all. I’m very happy to come back to United and I’m sure we will come back to the best.’

On his relationship with Pogba, Mourinho added: ‘One thing is what the press says, and another thing is what Paul says and of course another thing is what I say.

‘The press says we have a terrible relationship, Paul some weeks ago said we had a typical coach-player relationship, I think we have a good relationship. I would classify it as a good relationship between a coach and a football player.’
