Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of first-team players Alisson Becker and Thiago Alcantara, with the duo major doubts for Monday game against Arsenal.
The Reds already have several injury problems, with Jordan Henderson taken off after the first half against Chelsea and Fabinho forced to play as a central defender in the game with Matip and Gomez sidelined.
Now they have been dealt another injury blow, The Times claim both Alisson and Thiago are doubts for the match at Anfield and have been unable to train fully.
Both stars have ‘unspecified issues’ which have restricted their involvement in the club’s training over the past few days and will be assessed again today.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are due to have one final training session later this afternoon and the Liverpool boss is crossing his fingers that Thiago and Alisson can take part in the clash.
Even if they do, the players will need last-minute fitness checks before tomorrow’s game to make sure they are fit enough for the game.
But, Gomez has overcome his own niggle and will be able to play alongside Virgil van Dijk in defence, with Fabinho returning to midfield in the absence of Liverpool skipper Henderson and possibly Thiago too.
And, back-up keeper Adrian has been put on standby should Alisson miss out on the match, with the Spaniard having performed well when called upon last campaign.
While providing fitness update at his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: ‘I think Joe should be back today in training, that’s what everybody told me – and nobody told me something different since.
‘Billy [Koumetio] is back in training. Joel not, pretty much. Hendo not yet, that was clear – this game is for sure too early. I think that’s it, pretty much.’
