What Erik ten Hag has told Frenkie de Jong to convince him to join Man Utd

Frenkie de Jong’s future is now ‘increasingly further away’ from Barcelona with Erik ten Hag convincing the player he will build his Manchester United team around him.

Ten Hag has made de Jong his main transfer target this summer with the Red devils close to agreeing a fee with Barcelona for the Dutchman.

Marca claim United’s offer is €60million plus another €20m in add-ons which they are confident the La Liga giants will accept.

Barcelona are under pressure to sell in order to alleviate some of their own financial issues, while offloading de Jong will wipe his annual €40m salary bill off the balance sheet.

United’s main problem now has been convincing de Jong to leave the Camp Nou for Old Trafford, with the 25-year-old initially against leaving Barcelona.

United are growing more confident of changing that however with reports adding ten Hag has told his former Ajax midfielder that ‘the whole game will revolve around him’ in Manchester.

After his impressive showings for Netherlands in June, de Jong recently conceded he is more comfortable in the national team’s midfield set up than the role he has at Barcelona.

Marca believe the Red Devils are likely to offer him a similar role to the one he has been playing for Netherlands.

Following the departures of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, ten Hag wants to sign two midfielders this summer transfer window.

In addition to de Jong, United are also interested in Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, with the Blues prepared to listen to offers for the Frenchman.

United are also considering a move for PSV star Ibrahima Sangare, who is reported to have a release clause of around £30million.
