Less than a year after playing a pivotal role in Spain’s triumph at the 2024 European Championships, the young star delivered a brace against France, further strengthening his case for the prestigious award.
His standout display comes after an exceptional season with Barcelona, prompting many fans to call for him to be crowned the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner.
Now, speculation has intensified after the 18-year-old made a subtle change to his Instagram profile picture, possibly hinting at his aspirations.
Following the Nations League match, Yamal took to Instagram to celebrate Spain’s victory, sharing match photos and highlights on his story.
However, what caught attention was his decision to update his profile picture to an image of himself alongside his younger brother Keyne at last year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
While Yamal didn’t expect to win the award last year, he attended the event to support his Spanish teammates and was later honored with the Kopa Trophy.
In the previous Ballon d’Or rankings, he finished eighth, making him the only Barcelona player in the top 30.
This year, Yamal is expected to climb the rankings, with many considering him a strong contender alongside teammate Raphinha, PSG’s Ousmane Dembele, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Currently, bookmakers have him as one of the favorites for the 2025 award, though Dembele remains the frontrunner after securing both the Ligue 1 and Champions League titles.
Fortunately, Yamal won’t have to wait long to find out if he will claim the prestigious honor, as the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for September 22 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
