Solskjaer aims dig at Chelsea & Man City as he hits back at Klopp

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Jurgen Klopp that it has nothing to do with him where the Liverpool get their money from.

Klopp questioned how the Red devils have been able to spend £120m on Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane after football was ravaged financially by the pandemic.

But Solskjaer has told Klopp that United are one of the biggest clubs in football. And he said he had switched to driving an electric car to help avoid funding the petrol and gas-fuelled spending of Chelsea and Man City.

United boss Solskjaer said: “We are a well run club. “We do have a lot of fans out there and we do have good sponsorship deals.

“As a manager you want more and more money to spend – but I have heard ‘no’ a few times.

“How other clubs run their clubs is up to them. There are different models at different clubs. I have even started buying electric cars! “That is all I want to say about that situation.”

The Norwegian coach also believes Mason Greenwood is reaping the benefits of missing the European Championships. The teenage striker was forced to pull out of England squad with a groin problem.

But Greenwood worked through the summer to get himself fit for the new campaign – and was in good form as he found the target in United’s 5-1 opening day victory over Leeds.

Solskjaer added of the player: “I think the boy has had problems, he has had injuries, but he has done really well getting through and working really hard to get fit and I can see the benefit of his summer.

“Mason would have loved nothing else than to play in that Euro final of course. “He loves playing football, he loves playing for his country, he loves playing for Man United.

“But, of course, when you are a young boy, sometimes the body, with all the games, all the training and everything, takes its toll and you need to look after yourself.

“Mason is going to have a long, long career for both country and club.”
