‘He worships details!’ – Jorginho compares Arteta to former Chelsea manager

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho says that Mikel Arteta reminds him of his former Chelsea and Napoli head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Jorginho left Stamford Bridge for the Emirates in a £12m deadline day transfer in the January window and seems to have settled in well at his new club.

While there was some apprehension over the deal, he has already made a huge contribution, playing a key role in Arsenal’s comeback victory over Aston Villa that restored the Gunners’ Premier League lead.

The 31-year-old has revealed why he decided to join Arsenal, citing the opportunity to work under Arteta as one of the key factors and so far he’s enjoying life under the Spanaird.

And it’s easy to see why, as Jorginho compared his manager to one of his former coaches who he is very close to, telling BeIn Sports: ‘He [Arteta] reminds me a little bit of Sarri.

‘I am used to working with a manager that looks into the details. For me, details make the difference in the end between a good team and a winning team.

‘I am sure, 100%, that he worships [the details] so much. I’ve only been here a short time but I’m sure every day there is going to be something new and that’s why I’m so excited as well because I can see that I have so much to learn here.’

Jorginho first worked under Sarri in 2015 when the Italian coach moved to Napoli and the midfielder came to be a major player for the current Lazio boss.

In 2018 he reportedly rejected the chance to sign for Manchester City so he could join Sarri at Chelsea when he took over from Antonio Conte.

They won the Europa League, beating Arsenal in the final, but 2018/19 was the only campaign they would spend together in the Premier League as Sarri left to manage Juventus.
