Ajax manager mocks Man Utd after rejected Antony bid

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder has reminded Antony that he would be missing out on Champions League football if he chooses to join Manchester United this summer.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bring the Brazilian winger to Old Trafford but Ajax are currently standing firm over their €100m (£84.8m) valuation.

United have seen multiple bids for Antony rejected by Ajax but it’s believed that the Premier League club will continue to press ahead with their move this week.

Antony missed Ajax’s 1-0 win against Sparta Rottterdam on Sunday and refused to turn up to training last week in an attempt to force through a move to United.

But Schreuder believes Antony will remain at Ajax beyond this summer.

‘I just want Antony to stay, so I assume he will not be sold,’ Schreuder told ESPN.

‘The money in question is absurd, but we’ve already sold five or six core players. I don’t think it’s right if we sell another player.’

Asked if Ajax are in a position to refuse such a huge offer from United, Schreuder said: ‘I cannot judge that, the club has to judge that. ‘But I think we’re very strong financially.’

Asked whether he feels Antony will remain at Ajax, Schreuder replied: ‘My feeling about that is good, but I also understand such a boy. It is difficult.

‘But we play Champions League and I don’t think Manchester United do that. We’ll see what happens.’
