Torreira provides injury update after being stretchered off against Portsmouth

Arsenal player Lucas Torreira says he’s ‘fine’ despite being stretchered off with a nasty looking ankle injury in their victory against Portsmouth.

The midfielder lasted just fifteen minutes in the match and was replaced by Dani Ceballos after Portsmouth player James Bolton followed through in a tackle to leave Torreira in a heap.

Torreira was stretchered off and the manner of his exit concerned fans, who feared he could be ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

But Lucas Torreira has allayed those fears and hinted he could return very soon, despite leaving Fratton Park on crutches.

‘I wanted to tap it and grabbed my ankle on the outside,’ Torreira told ESPN.

‘It twisted me, but I can move it. I’m fine’.

Arsenal were poor during the first half but scored a goal in stoppage time through Sokratis to give the gunners the lead.

Mikel Arteta clearly had a word with his players at half-time and they emerged far stronger after the break and sealed their path through to the next round when Eddie Nketiah scored on the hour mark.

Following Arsenal’s win, Arteta said: “Lucas was very sore and is in a brace. He will be assessed in a few days and then we will know more.”
