Alves: Impossible I won’t come to Premier League

PSG defender Dani Alves says “it is not possible” he will finish his career without experiencing football in the Premier League.

The Brazilian has played for a number of Europe’s top clubs but revealed to Sky Sports he turned down transfers to Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, while the Brazil international does not confirm whether he will play in England, he says he will make it to the Premier League “one way or the other”.

He told The Telegraph: “The idea that I might finish my career without going to the Premier League, it is not possible.

“For sure, this is the most amazing football in the world. First, because of the respect for the players from the fans, and then because of the passion on the pitch.

“If I can play, that would be perfect, but I will make it there one way or the other.”

Alves has been out injured since last campaign, and therefore missed PSG’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.

While they have won all 13 of their Ligue 1 games to date – PSG are third in their Champions League group, and Alves concedes complacency may have become an issue.

“Not many teams have better players than PSG, but they need to understand the competition they are playing in,” Alves said.

“They are very comfortable in the French league, but they need to raise themselves for games against the biggest clubs.

“I don’t think PSG really understood what they were confronting when they faced Liverpool. It was like they didn’t realise who they were playing.

“They’re on their way to understanding it. If not, they will learn the cost.”
