Atletico Madrid name their price for Man Utd to sign Kieran Trippier

Trippier

Atletico Madrid have turned down Manchester United’s opening offer to sign Kieran Trippier.

The Red devils want to sign the former Tottenham player this summer with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believed to be eager to bolster his options at right-back.

Trippier helped Atletico win the La Liga in May and while Diego Simeone’s side are intent on keeping the defender, the 30-year-old is reported to be keen to return to the Premier League.

The former Burnley player joined Atletico Madrid from Tottenham in 2019 for a fee of around £20 million.

According to Mundo Deportivo, United have seen an opening bid of €12m swiftly turned down by the Spanish club, a fee they consider ‘clearly insufficient’. And Atletico’s position is that Trippier will leave if his €40m release clause is met.

Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is United’s major transfer target this summer but they are also looking for competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, in addition to a new central defender.

Formerly on the books of rivals Man City as a schoolboy, Trippier grew up as a United supporter and has already started looking at houses in the area, according to reports.

However, Atletico are determined to hold onto the player who they see as an important member of their squad.
