Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has revealed why he ‘shushed’ City boss Pep Guardiola during the Manchester derby.
Fernandes, who completed his long-awaited move to United in January, clashed with Manchester City head coach Guardiola during Sunday’s game.
With his team 2-0 down and Manchester United taking their time as they looked to see out the game, Guardiola cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines.
Fernandes did not react well to Pep Guardiola telling Luke Shaw to hurry up, however, and put his fingers to his lips to ‘shush’ the former Barca manager.
Reflecting on the incident, Fernandes said: ‘I talked about this with some friends and some people think “Pep won everything, who is Bruno to diss him?”, but I think it is about respect.
‘Now, I think outside of the pitch I don’t do this again if I am on the pitch now. But, at that moment the words he told me made me mad, and on the pitch I am a little bit nervous, it is the kind of player I am.
‘I have respect for Pep and what he won, and what he did for football because he changed some mentalities in football.
‘But, at that moment he didn’t deserve my respect at that moment on the pitch.’
Fernandes has quickly established himself as a firm fans’ favourite at the club after his January move from Sporting Lisbon.
The midfielder helped Solskjaer’s side clinch a 5-0 victory in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League game against LASK on Thursday.
