Following Manchester United’s 4-2 FA Cup victory over Newport on Sunday, team captain Bruno Fernandes took a swipe at teammate Alejandro Garnacho.
Although the Red Devils secured their spot in the fifth round with a win against the League Two side, Erik ten Hag’s team had to put in extra effort and faced some tense moments after squandering a two-goal lead.

United initially took control with goals from Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, but Garnacho missed a crucial opportunity to extend the lead to 3-0, opting for a solo attempt instead of passing to either Fernandes or Rasmus Hojlund for a straightforward tap-in.
The Argentine’s shot hit the crossbar, leaving his teammates visibly disappointed.
In the end, second-half goals from Antony and Hojlund secured the victory, but Fernandes expressed his displeasure with Garnacho’s decision during the post-match reaction.
‘We have to kill the game,’ Fernandes told the BBC. ‘In the first half we hand chances to make 3-0 but because when you get 2-0 in these kinds of games everyone wants to try to score and get their goal, sometimes we don’t get the best decision for the team.’
The United skipper added: ‘We wanted to win, we got it. But the result wasn’t the perfect one for us.
‘The first one, it’s a great goal from them. Unbelievable shot. But after we have to be more focused. In the second half we can’t concede another goal and let them have some belief.
‘After we did a great job to close the game. Our chance to win a trophy this season is the FA Cup and we have to give everything to get into the final.
‘To make the season look not as bad as it’s been, we have to try to win this trophy.’
