Chelsea squad morale ‘very low’ as huge concerns emerge over player behaviour

Reports indicate that morale within the Chelsea squad has significantly declined following consecutive heavy defeats, with concerns arising over the conduct of certain players.

The team from west London now finds themselves in 11th place in the Premier League standings following a demoralizing 4-2 loss to Wolves at home on Sunday, preceded by another four-goal concession against Liverpool just days earlier.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team now trails fourth-placed Aston Villa by a margin of 15 points, who currently hold the final automatic Champions League qualification spot.

The pressure on the Argentine coach is intensifying, yet Chelsea’s financial instability, exacerbated by their significant spending over the past 18 months, seemingly prevents them from affording his dismissal.

Even before Sunday’s match concluded, Thiago Silva’s wife, Belle, shared a tweet suggesting Pochettino’s dismissal, amid growing scrutiny on the club’s recruitment strategies.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, squad morale under Pochettino’s leadership has hit its lowest point, raising concerns among some observers about the atmosphere within the team.

While players at other Premier League clubs often spend considerable time at their training facilities, engaging with teammates and staff, there’s reportedly a different atmosphere at Cobham, where players tend to depart promptly after training sessions.

Instances of squad members staying behind for additional training or team activities are rare, fueling perceptions of a lack of cohesion within the group.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the team’s capacity to absorb and implement analytical insights, with some players struggling to accept constructive criticism.

The relative youth and inexperience of the squad are cited as contributing factors, as recruitment efforts have primarily targeted promising young talent, albeit with accompanying drawbacks.

An overarching challenge has been the difficulty in seamlessly adjusting to diverse tactics and playing patterns among new signings, as many players have been accustomed to rigid tactical frameworks within their previous teams.

Asked if his players are good enough after Wolves defeat, Pochettino said: ‘I think we are all not. At the moment, that is the reality. Myself, also, to be the first responsible for this situation. What we were showing today, that we are not good enough. I agree with you 100 per cent.

‘We didn’t manage the situation properly and no-one can be safe. I don’t want to come here and say I am the best. We are all responsible.

‘Even the players. The players need to take some responsibility like I am taking the responsibility, also. I agree with you, at the moment, we are not matching the history of the club. That is true, we have to accept and we need to be critical and not give up. We need to keep working to try and change, maybe take a decision, try to find things in a different way.’
