Cole Palmer blasts Chelsea teammates after Burnley draw

Cole Palmer criticized Chelsea for complacency in their 2-2 draw against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team seemed to have the upper hand after Burnley’s Lorenz Assignon received a second yellow card for fouling Mykhailo Mudryk, leading to Palmer’s penalty conversion in the 44th minute.

Josh Cullen surprised Stamford Bridge with a stunning goal two minutes into the second half, firing a fine shot from outside the box.

Despite their numerical advantage, Chelsea found it challenging to capitalize before Cole Palmer restored their lead in the 78th minute with a low shot.

However, Burnley quickly equalized three minutes later, as Dara O’Shea headed home from a corner, leaving Chelsea stuck in mid-table obscurity.

Speaking after the match, the England international said: ‘It’s poor, really… it can’t happen. Especially when they go down to ten men.

‘We got too comfortable. Same story, we kill ourselves every week. It’s got to improve from us as players. We need consistency.’

Meanwhile, Pochettino felt equally frustrated watching his team relinquish another lead, especially against opponents seemingly bound for an immediate return to the Championship.

He said: ‘We miss energy, the capacity to deal with the situation, we missed communication between us.

‘After Wolverhampton, I think the team were celebrating every tackle. Today we were not the same, the energy, maybe for a different reason.

‘We have a clear idea in each way we need to improve. That is the fact, that is the reality. We cannot analyse in a different way. That is the key.

‘The way we concede the first goal, they have one less. They need to realise we need to increase our work levels. It’s not to blame the players, it’s to blame everyone.

‘We need to be tougher when we have the players. We need to be a team, find better communication and be more competitive.’
