Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United should give Jadon Sancho the iconic number seven shirt, previously worn by players like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
United have been closely linked with a summer transfer move for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, though will have to smash their transfer record with his team demanding in excess of £100m.
Sancho has been in good form in the Bundesliga this campaign, scoring 14 times and providing assists, and is believed to be Solskjaer’s top target.
Rio Ferdinand would love to see Jadon Sancho show his stuff at the club and believes he has the playing style and character to take on the weight of the No.7 shirt.

Asked if he would give Sancho the number despite recent players who wore the shirt all flopping, Ferdinand told 606 Savage Social: ‘Yes, I would, he’s that type of character.
‘He’s got an arrogance about him, it’s what you want on a football pitch, they’d embrace that.
‘So yes, I’d give it to him and put that pressure right on his shoulders!’
Alexis Sanchez is the most recent owner of the No.7 shirt, though he failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford and left the club on loan to join Inter Milan.
Before the former Arsenal player, Memphis Depay and Angel Di Maria both wore number seven with little success, with the latter leaving the Red devils after just one poor season having been their record signing.
However, Ferdinand has no doubt that Sancho is worth spending big on and believes he can provide the ‘little bit of spice’ that Manchester United have been lacking.
He added: ‘Sancho would add in that extra little bit of someone who can draw.
‘I think having someone who can draw two or three players to them out of position, giving other players space, is what Man United have missed for a while.’
