Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is hoping fellow Portuguese star Fabio Vieira will enjoy success at new club Arsenal.
The Gunners completed their first major transfer of the summer last week as they confirmed the signing of Vieira from Porto in deal worth £34m.
The signing follows deals for goalkeeper Matt Turner and winger Marquinhos, while more signings are expected to come through the doors at the Emirates this summer.
Vieira, who is mainly an attacking midfielder like Fernandes, provided six goals and 14 assists last campaign.
Fernandes wants his compatriot, who he believes ‘has a lot of quality,’ to shine for Arsenal, but not when he comes up against Manchester United.
‘I welcome all Portuguese players who go abroad, I hope he can shine to the fullest, except against me,’ Fernandes told reporters in Portugal.
‘Fábio has a lot of quality and has been demonstrating that, whether in the FC Porto is in the Under-21s, he has had good numbers and good performances.
‘I hope he succeeds like all the Portuguese out there. We have to start valuing what is ours and I hope that Fábio manages to be as good as possible, despite of waiting to stay ahead.’
The north London club are also set to unveil Gabriel Jesus as their brand new striker signing imminently.
On Thursday, the Brazilian attacker was filmed walking around the Emirates Stadium ahead of a £45m move from Manchester City.
