Gary Neville mocks Carragher after Liverpool’s title party is delayed by coronavirus

Manchester United legend Gary Neville could not resist winding up Carragher after the suspension of the Premier League delayed Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title.

With seven teams having either players or staff in self-isolation due to coronavirus, the Premier League made the dramatic decision to suspend the competition until the weekend of April 4.

That has denied Liverpool the opportunity to become the first club ever to secure the title before the end of March, with the Reds having been in a position to be crowned champions on Monday.

Before all professional football in England was called off, a victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby – coupled with City failing to beat Burnley – would have sealed the Premier League.

Instead Liverpool will have to wait for at least three more weeks, though there are doubts about whether the League will be able to get back up so soon and the idea of voiding the campaign has even been floated.

Liverpool have had to wait 30 years to win the Premier League title, and Gary Neville was quick to troll Carragher about their delayed title celebrations.

The former defender uploaded a picture to his Instagram Stories of Man United’s players celebrating a brace from Mikel Silvestre against Liverpool back in the 2004/05 campaign, tagging Carragher – who cut a dejected figure in the photo – and simply writing, ‘Morning’.

Carragher was not best pleased, saying: ‘Can’t think why Gary Neville would be in such a good mood right now… ‘Oh I forgot, five millionaires and a billionaire owner run Salford so they’re fine if all the leagues get scrapped!’

Neville – who co-owns League Two club Salford City with the rest of United’s famous Class of ‘92, including Beckham, as well as billionaire Peter Lim – replied by saying: ‘Our James is touchy.’
