Jorginho delivers verdict on Chelsea’s imminent re-signing of Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has backed Romelu Lukaku to ‘contribute’ for the club ahead of his return to Stamford Bridge.

The London club are closing in on a deal for Lukaku, with Inter accepting a £97.5m offer from the Premier League side on Saturday.

Lukaku only played 15 matches for Chelsea during his first spell in London and will hope to fare better this time after two superb seasons at Inter.

The Belgian star scored 34 goals in his first season in Milan and another 30 last campaign to help Antonio Conte’s team win the Serie A title.

‘A player like Lukaku, who has been doing great seasons, was a champion in Italy, for sure is a player who would contribute a lot,’ Jorginho told TNT Sports.

‘Anyone who comes to contribute would be worth it. Let’s see what happens next.’

Jorginho has enjoyed an outstanding 12 months, helping Chelsea win the Champions League and then lifting the European Championship title with Italy this summer.

‘My focus is to win these titles,’ the Italy international added. ‘It’s something gratifying and addictive.

‘It’s just about working hard on the field, lifting trophies and taking medals home. My focus is on that.’

Lukaku, who also played for Everton and Manchester United after leaving Chelsea, is set to become the second-most expensive signing from a British club.

His deal, which is expected to cost £97.5m, would be just short of the £100m British record that Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish.
