On Monday, England’s World Cup squad met up at their training base at St. George’s Park ahead of the flight to Qatar on Tuesday.
It means that those selected will have to put aside their differences at club level to come together for their country, not least Arsenal’s Saka and Man City’s Walker whose teams are fighting for the Premier League title.
Going into the World Cup break, the league title race looks to be between the Gunners and the Citizens, with Arsenal extending their lead over Pep Guardiola’s side to five points last weekend.
City’s shock defeat at home to Brentford, coupled with Arsenal’s victory at Wolves means that the north London club will be top of the table at Christmas for the first since since 2007.
Arsenal’s success is unexpected, with the Gunners winning 12 of their 14 matches so far, beating the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea along the way.
City will be hoping to reel in their rivals when the league campaign resumes, though that will be tough if Arsenal maintain their great form, and Walker couldn’t help but jest with Saka about the matter.
Cameras at St. George’s Park captured the moment that the England players met up, with Walker asking Saka: ‘Are you guys [Arsenal] going to stop winning?’
The Arsenal star laughed and replied: ‘Don’t worry about that now bro! Are you feeling good?’
Walker was called-up by England despite being in recovery from a groin injury he picked up in October, and while he is not likely to be fit enough for the opening match against Iran this Monday, he should feature later on in the tournament.
