Lucas Torreira tells Arsenal he wants to leave after AC Milan first offer

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has told the club he wants to leave after the gunners received an opening offer from AC Milan, according to reports in Italy.

AC Milan have reportedly made a two-year loan offer for the Uruguay international worth up to €8 million (£7m) and includes a €38m right-to-buy option to be paid in a single installment.

Arsenal, who have given Unai Emery just £40m to spend on new signings this summer window, are understood to be open to selling the Uruguayan, who was a £26.5m arrival from Sampdoria last season.

According to Sportitalia, Torreira has told Arsenal’s hierarchy that he is unhappy with life in England and wants to return to Serie A with AC Milan.

Torreira is one of AC Milan’s major targets for the summer window as he is wanted by their new head coach Marco Giampaolo, who worked with him at Sampdoria.

Earlier this month, Torreira said that he was struggling to adjust to life in England and hinted that he would be open to returning to Italy.

‘I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country,’ said Torreira.

‘The language [barrier] has cost me, to be able to relate with my peers and with the people. It is very difficult when you can’t have dialogue.

‘And so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy.

‘It is strange a little bit, the sun, the more of us that we are here and we are accustomed to having always or almost always the sun. But as the years pass, I’m going to be adapting.’
