Manchester United are close to agreeing personal terms with Raphael Varane as they continue to make progress on a transfer for the defender.
According to Manchester Evening News, United are not ‘far off’ from finalising his demands and hope to complete the deal in the next few weeks.
Varane’s preference is to move straight to Manchester after his holiday, rather than have to return to Madrid for pre-season training.
Real Madrid want to sell Varane this summer transfer window as he has only a year left on his contract and they have no intention of allowing him to leave for free.
The negotiations have been described as ‘pretty slow’ but there is confidence that Varane will move to Old Trafford this summer.
There was no rush to complete the signing as he had a planned break after his participation for France at the Euros.
Madrid valued Varane at £80m but know they cannot get a fee anywhere near that figure and United are expected to sign Varane for a ‘good price’.

It was reported last month United were working on a £50m package to sign Varane but the La Liga gaints wanted a higher fee.
Varane is currently on holiday with his wife and two children after France’s elimination from Euro 2020.
The Red devils executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said he was prepared to sanction a £100m move for Varane after the World Cup in 2018.
