Man Utd in shock move to sign William Saliba from Arsenal

Manchester United made an approach for William Saliba before he signed his new deal with Arsenal, according to reports.

Saliba had only a year left on his contract with Arsenal and the Premier League club were growing concerned that he would not sign a new deal.

But, the North London club finally reached a breakthrough in negotiations and Saliba has now agreed to extend his deal until 2027.

According to RMC Sport, Manchester United were interested in signing Saliba and had enquired about the player’s situation before he reached a new agreement with Arsenal.

The report also claims that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich were keen on a move for Saliba if his contract talks with Arsenal failed.

Saliba was signed in a £27m deal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 but did not make a first-team appearance before his spells at Nice & Marseille.

After impressing in pre-season last summer, Saliba was handed his first-team opportunity by Mikel Arteta and the 22-year-old defender was one of Arsenal’s key performers this campaign.

But, his season was cut short in March due to a back injury and the Frenchman was unavailable for Arsenal’s Premier League title run-in with Manchester City.

Arsenal is hopeful that Saliba will return to full fitness for the start of their pre-season preparations.
