Man Utd player criticizes Solskjaer for making Harry Maguire captain in heated meeting

One Manchester United player openly criticized Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to make Harry Maguire captain during a heated meeting involving the team and management, according to reports.

Solskjaer’s position at Old Trafford is under huge threat after his side’s 5-0 defeat at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

Following a meeting this week, United’s hierarchy have decided to keep Solskjaer in charge for their league gane against Tottenham this Saturday, although his position will be under even more scrutiny if he fails to get a positive result.

According to The Times, Solskjaer invited the United squad to give their honest feedback in a clear-the-air meeting after their 4-2 defeat to Leicester City.

The report claims that some members of the team ‘did not hold back’, with one even questioning Solskjaer’s decision to appoint Maguire as captain at the start of 2020.

It’s also claimed that another United star accused some of his United teammates of lacking motivation during training sessions.

The report also claims that one United player confronted Solskjaer about his selection policy and asked why the manager did not drop those who have failed to perform this campaign.

It’s believed that United’s players still have respect for Solskjaer but many believe he lacks the tactical onus in comparison with managers like Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

Antonio Conte is one of the frontrunners to take over from Solskjaer but United’s hierarchy are torn over the Italian’s appointment as some believe his man-management style is not the right fit for the club.

Conte, who guided Inter Milan to the Serie A title last campaign, is reported to be willing to take on the job at United, even though his preference is to join before the start of a pre-season campaign.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson was present at United’s training ground on Tuesday along with the club’s former chairman Martin Edwards.

Despite his reaction of disbelief during United’s humiliating defeat to Liverpool which was picked up by television cameras, Ferguson is believed to be backing Solskjaer and wants him to remain in charge at Old Trafford.
