Man Utd submit contract offer to Bayern star Leon Goretzka

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a contract offer to Leon Goretzka in the hope that the midfielder will agree to leave Bayern on a free transfer at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The German star is entering the last year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and United have been alerted to his availability after no progress was made in discussions with Bayern over a possible extension.

Goretzka joined Bayern on a free transfer from Schalke in 2018, meaning the player has previously moved on a free transfer at the end of his contract.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bolster his midfield, particularly as it appears likely that Paul Pogba will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

According to Bild, the Red devils have submitted a contract proposal to Goretzka in oder to persuade him to call off negotiations with Bayern and to move to Old Trafford in  a year’s time.

Bayern are desperate to keep Goretzka, with Julian Nagelsmann saying during his first press conference as manager that he wants him to stay at the club.

‘Leon is an important player for us. I would be happy to work with him for many years,’ Nagelsmann told reporters.

‘I think very highly of him. He is one of the most dangerous midfielders in the world. Everyone likes to have him in their team.’

United have already spent £73million this summer on Dortmund attacker Jadon Sancho, with the Bundesliga club expected to confirm the transfer officially this week.

United hope to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in the coming weeks, though there’s still some way to go to negotiate a transfer fee.
