Julian Nagelsmann’s agent believes the former Bayern Munich head coach was right to reject the Chelsea job.
Volker Struth has also claimed Nagelsmann was Chelsea’s number one choice ahead of Mauricio Pochettino, who has now agreed to take over as the head coach at Stamford Bridge.
Nagelsmann pulled out of the running in April after discussions with Chelsea. But the club deny the German was their first-choice target.
Speaking to Bild podcast Phrasenmaher, Struth said: “I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call (after Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern Munich). There were some phone conversations.
“It was the right decision not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment. And their transfer policy, spending a few hundred million euros, has raised expectations that need to be met. There were also some other issues.
“He was their No1 (choice), that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he had wanted it.”

Pochettino is due in London this week to finalise his appointment at the West London club.
The former Tottenham boss is expected to sign a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge after extensive talks with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
He will start planning for next campaign ahead of what will be a key summer for Chelsea.
Pochettino will oversee a massive clear-out of the Chelsea squad and also wants to sign a striker, a goalkeeper and also a midfielder.
Despite the challenges, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims Chelsea and Pochettino are the perfect match.
Balague said: “Everything at Chelsea fits. It is a young squad, a thriving academy coupled with a desire from the owners to bring youth through, a philosophy that is aggressive and dynamic with high pressure and loads of energy.”
