Nkunku breaks silence with emotional message amid Chelsea transfer confirmation

Christopher Nkunku has paid an emotional goodbye to Bundesliga club RB Leipzig ahead of his transfer to Chelsea.

Last in 2022, Chelsea triggered Nkunku’s £53m release clause and though the London side are yet to officially confirm the transfer move, it has been an open secret for months.

And now, the forward has all but confirmed he will be heading to Stamford Bridge after posting a video of his highlights at RB Leipzig on Instagram.

The post was accompanied with the caption: ‘So good to have shared these moments with you all!’ with the Bundesliga club’s official account replying: ‘Thank you for creating these moments!!!’

The 25-year-old has ended his time at the Bundesliga on a high, scoring in the DFP Pokal final victory over Frankfurt last Sunday to secure back-to-back cup wins.

The former PSG star moved to Leipzig in 2019 and has recorded an impressive 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 games across all competitions, winning Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2022 and finishing as joint-top goalscorer in the last season.

Chelsea will be hoping the France international can deliver goals in the Premier League, with their previous big money signings from the German league – Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Pulisic – failing to make the grade.

Finding the back of the net was Chelsea’s main problem over the past season, with the club scoring just 38 league goals – only Bournemouth, Southampton, Everton and Wolves had fewer.

It remains to be seen how Mauricio Pochettino will use Nkunku as he is not a natural No.9 but rather a second striker, and whether or not the Argentine coach will want to sign more firepower this summer.
