Christopher Nkunku Chelsea announcement date ‘confirmed’ with delay explained

Christopher Nkunku’s Chelsea announcement is reportedly imminent, with the expected timeline of the transfer now revealed.

The France international will make the move from RB Leipzig to Stamford Bridge next month after a deal was agreed with Chelsea before the World Cup.

The confirmation of Nkunku’s transfer move, which will be in excess of his £52.7m release clause, has been delayed until the end of the season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, which will see him play under Mauricio Pochettino, and the reason for the delay has been revealed.

For Chelsea, they wait to make it public, but there are no issues. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote: “No changes, no issues or no problems on Christopher Nkunku deal.

“Understand Chelsea originally agreed with RB Leipzig to announce Nkunku after his final games of the season with France (June 19). Medical done in September (!), contract signed in December.”

Nkunku is currently on international duty with France as they get ready to play against Greece and Gibraltar in the EURO 2024 qualifiers.

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana, who is also French, gave his verdict on his potential arrival, telling Telefoot: “I hope he comes and plays for us. He would be a very good signing.”

Nkunku remained coy on the transfer, after being asked questions about his future. He said: “I am focused on gathering with Les Bleus. Everything that happens after, we will have time to think.”

The deal to bring Nkunku to the Premier League team is done.
