Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would reportedly consider resigning as the club boss if the club’s struggles continue.
The Red devils could drop into the relegation zone if results go against them this weekend with United taking on rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
Solskjaer insisted he is certain he can turn things around when he was asked about his future at Old Trafford in Friday’s press conference.
But it has emerged he would consider leaving if he felt it was in the best interests of United. According to The Metro Solskjaer is desperate to avoid damaging the club, having also spent so long there as a player.
And while the Norwegian insists he can overcome this slump, he has ‘too much respect’ for fans to put his pride first.
Those close to Solskjaer are said to believe he could resign before being axed by the club, if he felt he was no longer the right man.
Speaking ahead of the game with Liverpool, Solskjaer said: “I’m confident in what we’re trying to do and with my staff, I’ve been so impressed.
“We need to create more chances, because at the back we’ve looked solid, but we haven’t been adventurous enough, taken enough risks.
“The best teams around take more risks, do more runs and maybe the boys, when they lose confidence, they play safe and it’s my duty to say it’s not safety.”
On Liverpool’s form he said: “They’re doing well in the league, that’s for sure, but we’re looking forward to this game
“It’s the perfect game for the players and fans. We’ve had a tough time, a difficult time lately and I’m sure we’ll give them a good game.
“I’m just working as planned, it’s business as usual, trying to improve the team, trying to work towards something.”
