Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused Jadon Sancho’s request to wear the No 7 shirt at the club, according to reports.
The England international completed his move to Old Trafford last week. And the winger is not expected to be their only arrival of this summer transfer window.
The Red devils finally signed Sancho last week. And it was also announced the former Borussia Dortmund player would take the No 25 shirt.

Previously, there had been claims that United were going to give him the No 7 shirt instead – which has been sported by club legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Beckham, Eric Cantona and George Best over the years.
And according to Daily Mail, Sancho was indeed interested in taking the famous jersey. But, Solskjaer flatly refused to ask Edinson Cavani to give it up.
Cavani took the number when he joined the club on a free transfer from PSG last year, demanding it despite big flops such as Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez failing to do it justice.
And with the Uruguayan forward staying at the theatre of dreams, amid the interest from Boca Juniors, Solskjaer didn’t want to rock the boat.
However, It’s possible Sancho will get the jersey he wants when Cavan’s contract expires at the club next season. But, for now, he will have to settle for the No 25 jersey.
Meanwhile, Sancho thanked Borussia Dortmund for their trust in him after finally completing his move to Manchester United, saying on Instagram: “This is a hard message to swallow.
“First of all I just want to start off by thanking Borussia Dortmund for everything they have done for me, taking the risk on a young 17-year-old at the time with no first team experience and believing in me.”
