Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims dig at Mourinho after Cardiff win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took a dig at Jose Mourinho by saying a Manchester United side ‘should never be outworked’ after their 5-1 win against Cardiff City.

United put in their best performance of the campaign to ensure the Norwegian’s first match in charge ended with an empthatic victory in Wales.

The display was a return to the attacking football of Sir Alex Ferguson’s era and United were more energetic all over the pitch.

The statistics back that view up with recordings showing United outran their opponents for the first time this campaign.

Mourinho’s tenure went bad during his third campaign at Old Trafford and the fact that his side had been outrun on every single occasion this season showed that he had lost the dressing room.

And, after a dream start to his caretaker role, Solskjaer took a major dig at Mourinho’s time at the club by insisting a United team should never be outrun.

‘One of the things I talked about today was that a Manchester United team should never be outworked,’ said Solskjaer.

‘It doesn’t matter what team you play, you should run more than them and then your skills will give you a chance to win the game.’

United’s win was the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final match in charge that the club had scored five in a Premier League game.

Wayne Rooney was BT Sport’s guest in the studio for the match and the 33-year-old believes Mourinho would defended United’s one-goal lead in Wales.

‘I think the difference with Mourinho is that he gets one goal up and he likes to hold onto the result [but] now they’re trying to go up [and score more],’ Rooney told BT Sport.
