Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has warned Manchester United about a transfer over Samuel Umtiti and insisted that he expects the Frenchman to remain at the club.
The France international spoke about his future with Barcelona, saying that talks over a new contract had not yet begun.
‘Negotiations for a contract renewal have not started yet. My release clause is low, but that’s not what I worry about, I focus on the pitch,’ Samuel Umtiti told Canal FC.
‘it’s not only Manchester United, other clubs want me as well, nut my sole focus is on Barcelona.’
With the Red devils willing to trigger his £52million release clause, his future has led to plenty of speculation.
But Valverde told United that Umtiti is happy with life at the Camp Nou.
‘I don’t know what Umtiti’s said, I have not followed his comments,’ Ernesto Valverde said.
‘My understanding is Umtiti is happy here and we are happy with him.
‘I hope he will continue for many years because he is very important both on and off the field.
‘We hope the negotiations will come to fruition and that he will be able to continue for many years here.’
