Solskjaer responds to Cristiano Ronaldo to Man City speculation

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has dismissed speculation linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a transfer move to Manchester City as ‘nonsense’.

The Portugal international is unhappy at Juventus and is believed to be seeking a return to England amid interest from Man City.

City’s hopes of signing Harry Kane from Tottenham were dashed on Wednesday as the player committed to Spurs for another one year, forcing Guardiola to consider alternative options.

Ronaldo’s agent, Joge Mendes, is currently in Italy attempting to engineer a move for the Juve star with City unwilling to match €25m asking price.

Ronaldo spent six trophy-laden years at Old Trafford earlier in his career, and Solskjaer cannot envisage his former teammate making a move City.

‘I do not read newspapers,’ the current Manchester United manager told media in Norway. ’I know how much nonsense is written there, anyway.’

United, meanwhile, have bolstered their team to the tune of nearly £120m this summer after the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

While Sancho has made two substitute appearances so far, Varane is yet to make his debut ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against Wolves.

Speaking about what Varane will add to United, once he makes his Premier League bow, Paul Pogba said: ‘He’s a top man, a top player and brings his experience, his quality and his personality, even outside the pitch, to help the team.’

‘[What does he bring?] His experience. [It’s] his experience, you know. For a young age, he’s seen it all. He has a lot of experience to give to the team

‘I think everyone can learn from him. He’s been with the best and played with the best.

‘He saw all the top players and can give his advice, his personality and his experience to the team, like I said.’
