Erik ten Hag told to re-sign former Man Utd star & pair him with Rashford

Former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson has urged his old team to consider bringing Wilfried Zaha back to Old Trafford this summer.

Zaha is in the last six months of his contract at Selhurst Park and will have no shortage of suitors if he decides to move on this summer.

The Ivory Coast winger left south east London in 2013 to join United but played just four matches under David Moyes and was loaned out to Cardiff City just six months on from his arrival.

Zaha returned to Crystal Palace the following campaign where he has been one of the Premier League’s brightest talents with Simpson naming Liverpool as one of the teams who are in need of a player of his quality.

And while he says there will be plenty of clubs keen, he would like to see the Red Devils move for the 30-year-old, relishing the prospect of linking up with Marcus Rashford.

‘it’s a tough question, he can go wherever he likes especially on a free transfer in the summer,’ Simpson, who came through the United ranks before winning a Premier League title with Leicester City, told Stadium Astro.

‘I feel like Wilf plays better when he is the main man. I know he was a lot younger when he went to United, but if he goes to another top four top side he’s not going to be the main man.

‘So it is interesting to see where he goes but I think somewhere like Liverpool could do with him because at the moment it is not happening for them.’

Keen to see Zaha return to the theatre of dreams, Simpson believes his time at the club would have been different had Ferguson stayed on.

‘I would bring him back here,’ Simpson said. ‘If you looking at Marcus Rashford as the No. 9 and Wilfried on the left, that is some firepower.

‘It was Sir Alex Ferguson who signed him then he left. Moyes obviously came in and it didn’t work out.

‘I do genuinely believe if Sir Alex was the manager when he signed we would have seen a different Wilfried Zaha at Manchester United.’
