Diogo Dalot responds to Barcelona transfer speculation

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is not interested in a move to Barcelona and wants to sign a new contract to remain at Old Trafford.

The Portugal international has cemented his spot as a starter since Erik ten Hag’s arrival at the club, which has limited Aaron Wan-Bissaka to just four minutes of competitive football this season.

It represents a huge turnaround for Dalot, whose United career appeared over when they spent £50m on Wan-Bissaka in 2019.

Dalot made 24 appearances last term as Ralf Rangnick favoured his ball-playing ability and he’s made great strides again this campaign.

His impressive displays have seen him attract interest from Barcelona, with Xavi keen to sign a new long-term right-back.

Dalot has less than a year left on his deal at Old Trafford, though the Red Devils have the option of extending that by a further 12 months.

United are yet to open negotiations with Dalot over a new contract, which has alerted La Liga giants Barcelona.

But the Manchester Evening News claim Dalot is not interested in moving to the Camp Nou and wants to sign a new deal at United.

Dalot can now expect an increase on his £60,000-per-week salary once United come to the table for contract negotiations.

United had been keen to sell Wan-Bissaka last summer, such was the confidence in Dalot. Sergino Dest, the Barcelona star, was identified as his replacement but he joined AC Milan after they failed to generate interest in Wan-Bissaka.
