Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has heaped praises on the club’s transfer target Thiago Alcantara though refused to confirm if the Bayern Munich player would be moving to Anfield this summer.
The spaniard’s contract with the Bundesliga champions will expire next year and he has already asked the club to allow him to leave so he can yake on a new challenge in another country.
Liverpool are reported to be the club interested in his signature, with the 29-year-old already agreeing personal terms and putting his house in Munich for sale after discussions with Jurgen Klopp.
Although Klopp is known for not talking about transfer targets publicly, he has once again hailed Thiago Alcantara – though says Liverpool have not made any incoming signings for this summer window.
‘I have no idea who will play for me next year, there is nothing to say at the moment,’ Klopp told Sky Germany.
‘Thiago Alcantara is a great player, but also a Bayern Munich player. That’s actually all there is to say. There’s nothing to say!’
Rummenigge confirmed recently that Thiago Alcantara had asked to leave the club this summer, though Bayern are adamant that they will not allow the midfielder leave on the cheap.
With only a year to run on his current contract, Liverpool value the player at around £22million – but Bayern Munich have set their asking price to around £36m.
‘He wants to leave this summer. But I have to say honestly, the fees that circulate in the media, I have to laugh at that,’ said Rummenigge on Thursday.
‘We will not have a summer sale at Bayern Munich. We will only consider selling if the numbers are right.’
Thiago has enjoyed a good season in Germany this campaign and any move may have to wait until the end of August, with Bayern unwilling to allow him leave until after the Champions League.
