Lampard drops Dries Mertens Chelsea transfer hint on Instagram

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has dropped an hint Dries Mertens could be on his way to Stamford Bridge after following the Napoli forward on social media.

Last month, it was reported that the Chelsea manager is so keen on sealing a move for Dries Mertens that he calls the Belgian almost every day.




With managers and scouts unable to watch transfer targets closely in the flesh at the moment because of the coronavirus pandemic, technology proves invaluable.

The virus led to most football around the world being suspended, putting a spanner in the works in terms of teams preparing for a busy transfer window in the summer.

Frank Lampard has a big presence on Instagram, with 4.1million followers. The Chelsea legend is only following 295 people, and one of those accounts happens to belong to Dries Mertens.

Mertens is said to have his heart set on a transfer move to the club once his contract with Italian side Napoli expires at the end of the campaign.

And Italian daily Il Mattino claims that the Belgium international is the first name on Chelsea’s transfer wishlist ahead of the summer.

Dries Mertens has already scored 12 goals in 29 matches for Napoli this campaign.




Should he arrive, the 33-year-old forward will provide some competition in attack following the expected exits of Willian and Pedro.

Frank Lampard will push to sign Declan Rice to replace midfielder N’Golo Kante, should Chelsea lose the France international to Real Madrid this summer window, according to the Mirror .

Chelsea are hopeful of keeping Kante, who Lampard sees as a very important asset, but Real Madrid are said to have stepped up their pursuit for the Frenchman and put him ahead of Paul Pogba on their target list.

Lampard sees Declan Rice as a direct replacement should Kante leave the club.
