Liverpool are on the verge of finally completing a deal for Bayern Munch midfielder Thiago Alcantara, the German side have confirmed.
The Spaniard has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Premier League champions this summer after performing a U-turn on his decision to sign a new contract with Bayern.
Thiago has less than one year left on his current contract, but the Reds were initially unwilling to meet Bayern’s asking price.
But, according to the Athletic, Liverpool have now finally agreed a deal worth in the region of £27million with the European champions.
Discussions between the teams reached a standstill and Liverpool were reportedly preparing to return to the table in the last week of the summer transfer window.
‘I can confirm that FC Bayern have finally reached an agreement with Liverpool,’ Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild on Thursday.
‘It was Thiago’s great wish to do something new at the end of his career.’
But negotiations proceeded on Monday after Bayern told Liverpool they wanted the transfer to be done before the start of the new Bundesliga campaign.

Bayern Munich kick off their season against Schalke on Friday and Jurgen Klopp’s side will now hope to agree personal terms with Thiago.
Liverpool are not anticipating any problems with Thiago’s wage demands and the deal will be a huge boost for the reigning Premier League champions.
Thiago has been a key target for Liverpool after reports emerged he did not intend to sign a new deal at Bayern. He saw his stock soar again during the summer as the German side won the Champions League in impressive manner.
Klopp was interested in landing Thiago, but was appreciative of Liverpool’s financial difficulties amid the coronavirus crisis.
Thiago Alcantara will become Liverpool’s second signing this summer window after the addition of Kostas Tsimikas.
