Man Utd fans spot Sir Alex Ferguson’s reaction to Antony mistake in Nottingham win

Manchester United supporters caught a glimpse of Sir Alex Ferguson’s response to a blunder by Antony during the FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.

On Wednesday evening, United secured their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a dramatic late winner netted by Casemiro.

The game itself was fiercely contested, with both sides having opportunities to break the deadlock.

Manager Erik ten Hag handed Brazilian winger Antony a chance to showcase his abilities by including him in the starting lineup.

However, Antony failed to leave a mark and was substituted off in the 73rd minute.

In the first half, United’s skipper Bruno Fernandes attempted to find Antony with a cross-field pass, but the winger couldn’t connect with it. The camera then panned to Ferguson, who was seated alongside David Gill and Sir Dave Brailsford.

On social media, fans observed Ferguson’s evident disappointment at Antony’s inability to reach the pass.

One said: “Bruno tried a diagonal to Antony and then it cut to Fergie, Gill and Brailsford all shaking their heads.”

Another fan tweeted: “Even Ferguson is tired of Antony’s nonsense.” A third added: “Even Ferguson is tired of Antony’s crap.”

Someone else wrote: “Ferguson doesn’t look happy with Antony after Bruno’s pass lol.”

Since his transfer from Ajax to United for a reported fee of £86 million in 2022, Antony has largely failed to meet expectations.

The 24-year-old has managed to score only nine goals in 71 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking recently about Antony, Ten Hag said: “Antony: I backed him for a long time. I know his abilities and he has great abilities. When he plays like I know from the past he is unstoppable, no defender can stop him because he’s one of the quickest players in the first 10 yards.

“When he plays that game he will perform. I’m sure he will do for the future, I’m sure he is resilient, he is a character and he will fight back and I back him. He now has to wait for his chance and once he is there he has to pick up.”

In the upcoming round of the FA Cup, United will face Liverpool, who secured their spot by defeating Championship side Southampton 3-0 at Anfield.
