Man Utd and Solskjaer made mistake selling Lukaku to Inter Milan

Manchester United have been accused of ‘not understanding’ Romelu Lukaku’s potential, with Inter Milan hero Ivan Cordoba claiming Solskjaer made a mistake by selling the forward.

The Red Devils signed the Belgium international from Everton in 2017 in a deal worth more than £75m.

Lukaku scored 27 goals in his first campaign at Manchester City but struggled during the 2018-19 season and was sold to Inter later that year.

The 26-year-old is thriving in Seria A under Antonio Conte and had scored 27 goals in 38 matches before the Campaign had to be suspended due to the coronavirus crisis.

Cordoba, who won five Serie A titles and the Champions League during his spell at Inter Milan, believes the Red devils failed to recognise the potential of Lukaku.

The former Colombia player told MailSport: ‘Romelu Lukaku is an extraordinary player.

‘Manchester United did not understand the player’s potential and his last season was bad for him. In my opinion, Lukaku is proving to everyone he is a champion.

‘He is determined and the Premier League has improved him a lot. I met him: he is a positive leader in the changing rooms.

‘It’s a shame that Manchester United sold him, but I’m happy that Inter bought him. Antonio Conte has been fundamental to his form at Inter.’

Cordoba, who played more than 300 league games for Inter Milan, also praised his former team over their recent deals for Christian Eriksen and Ashley Young.

‘Eriksen and Young are excellent players and will give determination and strength to Inter,’ he added. ‘I am happy that they chose Inter.

‘Eriksen comes from Tottenham, a wonderful team, and Young was a symbol of Manchester United. Inter made two big purchases.’
