Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa speaks out on Man Utd transfer link

Diogo Costa has said he hopes to remain at Porto after being linked with a transfer move to Manchester United this summer.

The Red Devils have agreed a contract extension with David de Gea, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the month, but he has come under fire after several poor displays this campaign.

Costa, who came through Porto’s academy before making his first-team debut in 2019, is among the shot-stoppers on United’s radar, with his superb distribution

When asked about a potential move to United after Porto’s Portuguese Cup on Sunday, Costa said: ‘That’s the internet.’

Costa added: ‘It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club.

‘What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete, I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let’s see.’

Meanwhile, former Man United skipper Roy Keane told the club to replace De Gea after his failure to stop Gundogan’s second goal in Manchester City’s 2-1 victory in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

‘They need a new goalkeeper and world-class striker, I’m sick of saying it!’ Keane told ITV.

‘De Gea’s not good enough, he is not going to be the one to take United back to winning trophies.’

But, Erik ten Hag defended De Gea after Manchester United’s FA Cup final defeat.

‘In this moment, I don’t want to talk about such issues of criticism because we played all a great season, including David De Gea, he played a fantastic season,’ the United boss said.
