Erik ten Hag still ‘unsure’ over Man Utd’s £100m summer transfer target

Manchester United are yet to make a final decision over their main transfer target this summer with Erik ten Hag set to choose between Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

United, who signed Wout Weghorst as a short-term solution in the January transfer window, have made the signing of a new striker their focus for the summer.

The Telegraph claims that Kane and Osimhen are the two players who currently top the club’s shortlist, while Ten Hag is still determining which striker would work best in his style at Old Trafford.

The report claims Ten Hag has been keeping tabs on Osimhen’s displays for Napoli since the start of the campaign but is ‘unsure’ over some parts of the 24-year-old’s game.

Meanwhile, it’s reported that Ten Hag understands that Kane offers a ‘unique skillset’ and would be a ‘strong character’ at Old Trafford.

But, both Kane and Osimhen are likely to cost United a minimum of £100 million this summer but the Nigeria international would offer Ten Hag a longer-term solution if he proves to be a success at the club.

Kane will have just one year left on his contract at the end of the campaign but Spurs are still demanding a huge fee for the England captain, while the club’s chairman Daniel Levy would prefer to sell him to a club outside of the Premier League.

Napoli would also command more than £100m for Osimhen, who is the top scorer in Serie A this campaign with 16 goals for Napoli.

Since joining the Italian side from Lille in a €81.3m (£72.4m) deal in 2020, Osimhen has scored an outstanding 45 goals in 83 appearances.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph also claims that United have shelved plans to sign Benjamin Sesko as they believe the 19-year-old is ‘not ready’ to become Ten Hag’s leading striker.

Former Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, who has scored 34 goals in 81 appearances since joining Roma in 2021, is regarded by the Red Devils as a back-up option.
