Chelsea to rival Tottenham for Nagelsmann if they sack Graham Potter

Chelsea will rival Tottenham to appoint Julian Nagelsmann in the summer should they decide to sack Graham Potter, according to reports.

Tottenham are seeking to hold discussions with Nagelsmann over a possible move to north London after his surprise sacking by Bayern and after Spurs decided to part ways with Antonio Conte following his public rant.

But the 35-year-old – who has also been linked to Real Madrid – has been shortlisted by Chelsea, who have not ruled out sacking Potter if they do not start to ‘deliver now’, according to Sky in Germany.

Potter only arrived at Chelsea in September but the Blues have endured a disappointing campaign and are as low as 10th in the Premier League table.

Their terrible 2022-23 season comes despite the club spending over £600m on players since the summer, when Todd Boehly took over from Roman Abramovich.

Bayern Munich’s decision to sack Nagelsmann came as a shock, with the manager considered one of the best young coaches in world football.

It was surprising because the German club are still in contention to complete a treble this campaign, with Bayern in both the quarter-finals of the domestic cup and the Champions League and only a point behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham are long-time admirers of the former RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim head coach and had wanted to appoint him in 2021 after they sacked Jose Mourinho, though he went to Bayern instead.

Nagelsmann is said to have something of an affinity for Tottenham and is even reported to have owned a replica shirt – although it is not clear why he came to support the team.

Tottenham feel he would be the right manager for the club but interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid has put a spanner in the works.
