Solskjaer accepts Man Utd star will leave after Europa League final decision

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to make a decision between David De Gea and Dean Henderson for the Europa League final on Wednesday and accepts that whoever misses out is likely to have played their last game for Manchester United.

De Gea started the campaign as number one, with Henderson getting the opportunity to impress in the cup competitions after his return from a two-year loan spell at Sheffield United.

But, Henderson recently took over Premier League duties when De Gea travelled to Spain to attend the birth of his first child, giving the England youngster the perfect chance to stake his claim to be the long-term number one.

But Henderson has so far failed to convince Solskjaer that he should be the first choice, with the keeper making a costly error in the 4-2 defeat to Liverpool this month and looking susceptible from set pieces.

Henderson made it clear on his return to the club that he had no intention of being De Gea’s back up and he has attracted interest from Tottenham, Chelsea, Dortmund and AC Milan since he was dropped for the draw against Fulham in the league last week.

That move suggests Solskjaer is swaying towards De Gea for the huge clash in Gdansk and ESPN claims the Norwegian manager is aware that whoever misses out in Poland is likely to leave this summer.

De Gea is currently United’s highest earner on £375,000-per-week and is keen to stay at Old Trafford.

However, Solskjaer has major concerns over the Spaniard’s lack of motivation and inability to command his box but he is technically superior to Henderson, who is bettter in his communication and organisation skills.

The game is the biggest of Solskjaer’s two-and-a-half-year reign at the club, providing him with the opportunity of winning silverware for the first time at United as manager.

The Red devils have lost five semi-finals under the Norwegian.
