Chelsea to sign Kepa replacement after Kai Havertz deal

Chelsea have invested heavily in the market for new signings to strengthen their front line, but Frank Lampard is not done with this summer spending.

The Blues have already secured deals for Hakim Ziyech, who has already started training with his new team-mates, and beat Liverpool to the sisgning of Germany international forward Timo Werner.

Chelsea can secure Champions League football if they are able to avoid defeat against Wolves on Sunday, a good achievement given Lampard was unable to sign players last summer, but their shaky defence has been a big problem.

Chelsea have already conceded 54 goals – more than any other team currently in the top half of the leagu table – and the form of Kepa Arrizabalaga has been largely responsible.

The Spanish goalkeeper cost the Blues a club record £72million in the summer window of 2018 but is nowhere near to justifying that fee.

He was benched earlier this campaign, replaced by experienced keeper Willy Caballero, but his form has seen no improvement since he earned a recall.

According to ESPN, Frank Lampard has already lost patience with Kepa and fears he may not develop into the authoritative, commanding goalkeeper he needs at the club to advance his rebuilding job.

Chelsea are reportedly close to signing another attacking player, Kai Havertz, to their team and once the deal is complete Lampard will them move to sign a new keeper.

The Premier League side have been linked with the likes of Andre Onana, Marc Andre ter Stegen and Manchester United goalie Dean Henderson, who has been outstanding while on loan at Sheffield.

Lampard, however, wants to sign an experienced keeper which would rule out the possibility of making a move to sign Henderson who has only one campaign of top flight experience.
